When Kendrick Lamar stood on the hood of the blackest and coldest Pontiac GNX, rocking a black and white pair of Deion Nike DT Max 96, I thought of the night of the election — anxiously laying with my kids, praying for them, our country — and every day since: the numbness of defeat.
I can not tell you how deeply your writing and that performance affected me. My words are inadequate to express my deep gratitude. Under this administration, we all seem to be living in a world where people are rude and insensitive. They are blind to the cruelty and oppression. They are self-satisfied and benefit from the status quo. This is what you have been trying to tell us all along. I hear you loud and clear, and I am stepping out of my white reticence, and I am going to be loud and boisterous. Thank you.
W O W. Brilliantly written 👏🏻 Poetically crafted and powerfully woven into the fabric of our collective consciousness. My spirit and soul are graced with gratitude for your incomparable skill to bring this masterpiece to life. I didn’t watch the game, no interest whatsoever so THIS is all I needed to see and read. Thank you 🙏🏻
I boycotted the Super Bowl game. I was determined I was going to find out through some one else's eyes. I listened Don Lemon. Thank you for sharing this. Preach It!!!!
This essay just came across my feed today, and I want you to know that it has blessed and encouraged my soul. Thank you so much for this piece and for giving voice to the beauty and pain of being black in the United States of America. Let us march on till victory is won!
“We have taken what little they gave us and made it ours. They saw blackness as a curse. We made blackness a world.” - and us white people are jealous of your brilliance and artistry. We get mad as hell when we see something that we had no capacity or imagination for. You are able to create that world without taking from others. Kendrick Lamar’s performance was able to show love for the Black world AND speak truth to the white world, if they would want to listen, all while being subversive and nuanced. It was brilliant.
As is your writing. Thank you for sharing your brilliance in your writing. Take care of yourself and continue to find joy in every place possible.
"Artfully beat every attempt at your erasure. Turn the TV off. Go be free. Go fight. Go live. Go do it together." Beautiful writing. Important. Will be sharing widely.
"but you possess a kind of divinity, a kind of power by simply being you." This was beautiful and a hug for my mind. I haven't danced and smiled as much since the election, but Kendrick's performance and storytelling lifted my spirit so much. Thank you for this!
Yessir. Thank you for this! I’m sending this to anyone who asks, “why was this performance important?” ✨🎯
Thank you!
No problem. 🤘🏿✨
“If there is anything exceptional about our country, it is the exceptional way it avoids being honest with itself.” Mic drop.
Exquisite. Thank you for this. I will be meditating on these words in the days to come.

Trump wants no inclusion, he got it.
